Voco Twinky Star is a versatile dental compomer with a touch of glitter, specially formulated for filling cavities in deciduous (baby) teeth. This radiopaque material is composed of 78% inorganic fillers, offering excellent durability and longevity. It is cured efficiently using either halogen or LED (blue) light, ensuring a quick and reliable restoration process.
Designed for use by professionally trained dental practitioners, Twinky Star’s application is straightforward. After cleaning and preparing the tooth, the practitioner selects the appropriate shade and applies the material using a dentin/enamel bond and adhesive technique. The material can be layered for deeper cavities and is cured using standard polymerization devices.
Twinky Star’s formulation includes ingredients like BisGMA, UDMA, and fumed silica, ensuring it meets the performance requirements and standards for its intended use. However, it should not be used on patients with known hypersensitivity to methacrylate or BHT. Proper storage and disposal guidelines are provided, and any adverse events should be reported to VOCO GmbH and the relevant authorities.

Direction of useÂ
Preparation:
- Begin by cleaning the teeth to be treated.
- If applicable, mark the occlusal contact points on the tooth.
Shade Selection:
- Choose one of the 8 available colors indicated in the shade guide.
Cavity Preparation:
- Prepare the cavities following the principles of adhesive restorative treatment.
- Minimize invasiveness to protect healthy dental tissue.
- Be sure to follow special preparation forms for deciduous teeth.
Cleaning:
- Remove any residues in the cavity using a water jet.
- Avoid contamination with blood or saliva after cleaning.
- Remove excess water with a faint air jet, but do not overdry the dentin. The dentin surface should be moist but not too wet (wet bonding).
- Ensure a dry working field.
Pulp Protection:
- It is recommended to apply a calcium hydroxide lining in areas close to the pulp.
Bonding Materials:
- Apply Twinky Star with a dentin/enamel bond using the adhesive technique.
- Any light-curing bonding materials can be used; follow the relevant instructions for use during preparation (etching technique) and processing.
Application:
- Insert Twinky Star Caps into the opening of the dispenser, following the instructions for use.
- Turn the cap into the desired direction and remove the protective top.
- Apply Twinky Star directly into the cavity by slowly and evenly pressing the levers of the dispenser together.
- For fillings over 2 mm in depth, apply and cure in layers. Use transparent strips and crowns or light-wedges to ensure a tight marginal seal.
Light-Curing:
- Use conventional polymerization devices for light-curing the material.
- Depending on light output:
-
-
- 500 – 1000 mW/cm2: Cure for 40 seconds
- LED/halogen lamp ≥ 1000 mW/cm2: Cure for 20 seconds
-
- Bring the light aperture as close as possible to the light-curing unit for effective curing. Inadequate curing can cause discoloration and complaints.
Finishing:
- After removing the matrices, trim and polish the filling immediately while cooling (e.g., using fine or extra-fine diamond burs or a polisher).
- Finally, fluoridate the tooth.
